GPl v New Beccs

Well done to all who played on Saturday. With only 10 players we put on a cracking performance and did not deserve to loose 1 -0.

Jakki, Lynsey and Fran were solid at the back with Lynsey sacrificing her shins to a particularly hard hit during a corner hit. Their goal came from what Geoff described as miscommunication from the New Beccs umpire and Ange. Hazel took a free hit which was blown up as Ange was not standing 5 metres away from her. Ange passed it back to Haze thinking this is where the free hit would be taken by the opposition. Their umpire thought she had hit it away and asked for it to be moved 10 metres. Ange turned to the umpire and tired to explain she was passing it back so the hit can be retaken. He then told the opposition to move it up another 10 metres. With the majority of us looking at their umpire in astonishment, the opposition took advantage of a quick pass to take into the top of the circle and hit a cracking shot into the goal. Mary who had been brilliant in goal never stood a chance.

We had our chances. How many short corners did we get? I lost count but we were unable to convert. Well done to Sandra, Haze and Ange for running their socks off in midfield and for Claire B who stood mostly alone upfront and managed to beat her defender everytime but having the spare player mean’t there was always an additional player to get round. A big thank you to Michelle who was brave enough to play having not played hockey since school. It was a good first effort so hopefully we will see you again.
